Nashua North Doesn’t Provide Feminine Products in the Bathrooms

Girls attending Nashua High School North are making their aggravation crystal clear because the school does not provide menstrual products.

Nashua North does provide the products in the nurse’s office and the academy offices, but having them in the bathroom gives girls more privacy and comfort they might want.

Some concerns however are expressed with providing the products. Hillary Urena, North senior says, “I think it would be nice if we had them but also I feel like some people might waste them.”

This could further illustrate why the products are only in the stated areas.

What the school does not think about is having to walk to the offices for a menstrual product wastes the students' learning time. Accidents happen and sometimes the product cannot keep from leaking. Having to walk a long distance can cause more damage than good because the accident can be visible to others causing embarrassment.

Periods have been a topic that people tend to be disgusted by even if it’s a natural occurrence. As well as having to change clothes or even get dismissed from school.

Another student at North, Eva Torres gave her opinion as well. “It sucks that we don’t have any in the bathrooms because if you run out you have to go around asking for some which makes it more difficult and a longer process,” she said.

Teachers even recognise this difficulty by going out of their way to have feminine hygiene products in their classroom.

Trusting the young women to do the right thing and be responsible is what North should be able to do. People do not and will not waste products that are a necessity, especially if the products are period related.

Renee Ruiz, a parent of a student at North stated “There should be pads in the bathrooms but thinking about the budget, the products are going to be cheap. If they ask for donations then there’s an exception of course.”

She also said that there should be a room where basic needs like snacks, hygiene products, including feminine ones as well are provided for students if putting those items in the bathrooms causes a problem.
