Course Selection for the Years 2026-2027

Every school year, students have the opportunity to go through something called course selection. For Nashua North, that is next month in February. Everyone will choose their classes for the upcoming school year after the portal opens on January 26th. After that, from 2/3/26-2/19/26, students will be called grade by grade to the cafeteria to spend the block discussing their choices with their guidance counselors.

Upon entering the cafeteria, you will find a table with your guidance counselor's name on it and, you will sit down with your chromebook. Normally you would choose/confirm classes based on what you want to major in but, if you haven’t decided, than, you can choose classes that seem interesting or fun to you. But do make sure to match your graduation needs.

There are also classes that will help you decide what you might want to major in. One of those classes being Health science 1. Health science 1 is a part of the CTE program offered at North. CTE’s are typically only for Juniors and Seniors but, I can say, if you get a recommendation from a teacher during your Freshman year, you may be able to take one as a Sophomore.

More classes a part of our CTE program include: Advanced Manufacturing, Automotive Technology, Biotech & Biomedical science, Business Pathways, Careers in Education, Computer Networking & Cybersecurity, Cosmetology, Culinary, HVACR, Video production and more.

This year we have two new CTE classes being introduced; Emergency services and Graphic Communications.

The Emergency Services program helps you develop a strong idea of the steps of being a Police Officer or Fire Fighter. Graphic Communications Gives you a grasp on Graphic Design knowledge.

CTE classes are shared between North, South and Alvern. When choosing your classes do take into consideration what classes are required for you to graduate.

While picking your classes your guidance counselors will be going around the cafeteria to help you if you need any assistance. Once you are done, you will find your counselor and you will talk together about why you choose the classes, how many credits they add up to, and if you are happy with the classes you have chosen. If you are not happy with the classes you have chosen, then you can always request to meet up with your guidance counselor at a later date.

When schedules come out for classes for the new school year, they will come out around a week or two before school starts. Don’t be afraid if your schedule doesn’t look like how you had expected it to, with classes being there that you haven’t chosen. This is most likely because one of the classes you chose can’t fit inside your schedule, or got filled up. You can always email your guidance counselor about the problem but there is no guarantee your schedule will get fixed. It’s not the end of the world though. You can still try and take the missing classes on VLACS or the following year.

On January 6th your parents received an email stating course selection is coming up and it must be finished before February break. But don’t sweat it, just figure out what classes you want to take and which one fits for next year's graduation requirements. Also, don’t stress yourself out by picking only hard classes. Being stressed is not fun from my own personal experience.

If you would like to go above and beyond with your school work for next year, these are your NH scholarship requirements: https://nhscholars.org/wp-content/uploads/NH-Scholars-Pathways.pdf

There are four different categories with a Minimum NH requirement for scholarship: the Stem Pathway, the Arts Pathway, and the Career Pathway..
