Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo: Worth it?
By Haylee Crapo
Recently reviewed author Leigh Bardugo is back again with another installment of her Grishaverse: Six of Crows.
Six of Crows follows a group of six: Jesper Fahey, the sharp shooter; Kaz Brekker, the leader; Wylan Van Eck, the demolitions man; Inej Ghafa, the wraith; Matthias Helver, the muscles; Nina Zenik, a woman with a sharp tongue and the power to stop a heart with a flick of the wrist. They are known as the Crows.
The plot follows the Crows as Kaz Brekker is hired by a high profile man to break into the Ice Court, a building where someone is being held captive. Kaz must break in, get this person, and get them out, all without being spotted or killed. Kaz Brekker is always the man with the plan, and with the help of the rest of his gang, he must be able to stay alive, finish the mission, and get his reward, while also dealing with his emotions along the way. With a traumatic past and a blossoming love, can Kaz and the rest of his crew make it to the Ice Court and pull off the greatest heist ever?
Bardugo fills the novel with lovely characters all with different motivations, personalities, flaws, and more. If you’re a fan of found family and snarky banter, this book is the one for you. However, be careful, as it will suck you in fast and will leave you craving the second book, Crooked Kingdom, before you can have the chance to say ‘no mourners, no funerals.’
This book is one of my favorites that Bardugo has written. With chapters that alternate between most of the Crows and a plot that will leave you on the edge of your seat the entire time, Six of Crows is a masterpiece. Plus, with such gorgeous cover art, how can you not do a double take?
Definitely worth it! 5/6 stars!
