The Grimoire of Grave Fates, while having two creators, is a book featuring eighteen separate authors, all with their own chapter and character. The plot takes place over a hectic twenty hours on the magical school campus of Galileo’s Academy for the Extraordinary, a school jam packed with gargoyles, spells, and murder.
Our story starts at two in the morning, where a student discovers the dead body of the less-than-favorable Professor Septimius Dropwort. A killer is on the loose, and while many are not angry about the death, the prospect of a murder on campus grounds is enough to shake many of the students and teachers. However, eighteen spell casters with different ages, backgrounds, and casting methods are taking it upon themselves to insert themselves into the investigation (whether they’re simply sneaking into Dropwort's office to take back items he confiscated from them, or actively trying to solve the murder). Follow each student as they uncover clues and motives, secret underground classrooms and ancient artifacts, all the while dodging detention and bad grades.
It took me a little bit to get into the book, but once I did, I have never been so thrilled. Each new character is their own person completely different from the rest, and the plot isn’t too hard to follow. Every now and then I would get a little confused on the timeline, but a quick break and double check into the timing of certain scenes would clear it up immediately. This book does require some focus, again, since it can get a little easy to get lost, but other than that everything is great.
Who dared to kill the professor? Will these students be able to solve the murder in time and catch the killer? When will the murderer strike next? Read the book in order to gain the answers to the questions and you will not be disappointed!
Yeah, worth it!
