Nashua North 2024 Softball Season
by Samantha Hall
Nashua North softball is back for a new season with new coaches and an almost brand new team, with only five out of nineteen of the players being returners.
Over the past two years, there have not been a lot of people on the team. Last season they started with twelve players. By the time of their last game, nine players remained.
This year, however, with more recruitment and lots of new freshmen, this year's varsity softball roster increased to nineteen girls.
After only the first day of practice, returning players already said that they were feeling confident about this season. After three practices, junior Hope Blondin, returning for her third consecutive softball season stated, “I already feel like we are going to have a much more successful season than last year. Everyone seems to be getting along and the energy is so much more positive than last year. I think we might have a chance of winning at least one game.”
New varsity coach Jen Hall, JV coach Melissa Paladino, and JV assistant coach Wendie Joyal are all excited and optimistic about the new season.
Hall said, “My hopes for this season is that I am able to have the team bonded and we are able to win at least one game this season. I am also hoping that I can get everyone so excited about playing for a division one school even though we might lose a lot of games. But maybe positive attitudes and skill might bring more wins. I really just want the girls to love the sport, that is really what I want.”
Over the past two years with the previous coach, the North Varsity Softball team did not have the best record with zero wins and 18 losses in 2023 and 2022. The last time the team won a game was May 14, 2021, against Manchester Memorial, which was their only win that season.
The softball practices for this season started on March 21, due to the fact the coaches got the positions the Friday before. Practices will occur Monday through Friday from 4-6 pm.
Their first game is an away game on April 8 at 5 pm against Portsmouth. Starting on April 8, games will be almost every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and practices will be on Tuesday and Thursday.
