Do you drink caffeine? Well many students do, but are they taking advantage of it? Numerous students around North admitted to taking advantage of using caffeine to help them power through something important such as a project or test, even a final. Sometimes these students are getting the right amount of sleep but are still drinking these drinks daily such as a Celsius or monster, and the classic coffee. In recent years, caffeine consumption has gained popularity among pre-teens and teens. The cause for such a drastic increase in caffeine consumption in students is because of the popularity and taste of these caffeinated drinks, people can get addicted to these drinks quickly and it can cause people to turn to social media and inadvertently advertise to people how enjoyable the drink is so that others are influenced to buy the products as well. The effects of caffeine can happen in as little as 30 minutes. Some short-term effects include: increased alertness, elevated heart rate, anxiety and jitters, insomnia, and gastrointestinal discomfort. Long term effects that can occur after consuming caffeine are dependence, caffeinism, potential health risks, and pregnancy risks for women. So, we asked Nashua North students about their experience with caffeine.
